The great ocean drops

Mary, a 23 year old german girl would be my travelpartner for the roadtrip from Adelaide to Sydney. I was really excited to travel in my Van! Mary seemed to be a really nice girl and we agreed quite well on the travel plan. After seeing the exceptional white kangaroo at bordertown we climbed a small mountain near Mt Gambier and discovered a salt lake in the short distance. Off course once we started walking it was more far away then we guessed, and flies were all over me,but it was nice to experience walking on the salt and on the way back we saw the biggest Lizzard till now I saw in Australia sunbathing on a dead tree.

A while later we arrived at the Grampians. There we climbed up some walking trails which gave a view over the whole area. On the way to another waterfall we met our first kookaburra.

When I was in Belgium planning my trip I imagined myself doing the great ocean road with my surfboard and stopping at all the beaches. Well I guess this picture says anough: the first day started with a lot of rain. At the first view we ran out of the car, took a picture and run back. It was not what I hoped, but we had a good time. On our way we finally discovered koala’s along the road: surely one of the cutest animals that represent Australia. First we saw a big one, later some others and even a mother with a little baby.

After a long search we found the lighthouse that we wanted to see.  We drove until Apollo bay where we saw a big waterfall from a distance. We tried to find a road to it, but ended up somewhere in a the mountains with a dead end road. No regrets, cause the mountain were breathing on the peacefull rithme of nature where only a dozen people build there dreamhouse. In the evening we could try out my outdoor kitchen along the beach.

Unfortunately It was difficult to find a sleeping spot, so we drove into the mountain an stopped along a narrow little way. Once I was out the car for a sanitary stop I heared a noice that sounded like a pig! Mary heared it too and we jumped in the Van to be safe. We decided to get some sleep and leave immediately in the morning. The next day we made a stop at Turquay bay, the foundation of surf in Australia. Since Mary was not interested in it, we didn’t stopped long and continued to Melbourne. I was already planning a day trip to this surfmecca for my own.

In Melbourne we could sleep in a house in Williamstown from Mary’s friends. We could take a train to the centre to discover the Queen Victoria Market, a nice place with all fresh food, souvenirs, everything, even some delicious Belgium waffles with Belgium chocolate! The city showed a lot of culture through old and new buildings, talented street artists, big museums and graffiti lains.

On Monday I made a day trip to torquay to see all the surfshops and the surfmuseum: a must for every surfer! In the evening I went on skydeck88. The building with…. Metres counts 88 flours and shows a magnificent 360° view over Melbourne by day and night. I stayed almost 2h and tried to capture the city by night.
